Political Activism and Our Faith

In light of recent events I feel that I need to express my understanding of what it means, to me, to be a Catholic Christian in the world today.

First of all I want everyone to notice that I used the words "in the world", not "of the world". I believe that we are all called to be active members in promoting, teaching and reaching out to those around us. I believe in One God, The Father Almighty and if I believe in Him I need to do as He tells me. I don't always do so but I try and with prayer, reading the Bible (so that I can listen to God for a change), I can do as He asks and trust that He knows what is right and wrong.

With that said I am going to speak out to everyone and pray that my words not offend so much as they will lift up, bring you courage, hope and prayerfully some Christian truths.

I have watched our President take this country down a road that can only be called perdition. His anti-life, anti-Christian bias has been proven in his words, actions and appointments. I have watched the House & the Senate, the media and a large group of people around the world, lay down and bow to his every word as if it were "manna from heaven". I am grievously appalled at such immoral behavior but I am not surprised. We Christians have failed to be vocal and in front of the fray as we should be.

If I don't speak out and share what and why I know to be true, how can I expect the world to just "know" what is truth. This is where being politically active comes in to play.

The Pro Life movement needs to become active in all political fields. Why you ask? Because the heart of the matter is that if you don't believe that ALL human life is a gift from God how can you expect laws and governments to do the same. How can you expect them to protect the innocent? Life is the heart of the matter and that means that we must be actively pursuing their protection at every avenue. From the small things to the large things. From the laws that seem irrelevant to the laws that are so outlandish that you can't miss them. We have a duty to stand up and be heard.

The latest event was a Tax Day Tea Party. Now you ask why that was important to the Pro Life movement and I am about to tell you why I believe it is important. It is important because it shows that it places a burden so large on not just our generation but on generations to come. It is important because it will wreak havoc on our economy for years to come. This will affect everyone from conception to natural death. How? We will eventually be told that we can't afford our children, so birth control and abortion will become "the ONLY solution" according to those who have taken the necessary steps to promote and be heard by our government. The population of the earth is what is causing global warning, we have all heard this (and now the world believes this) and we ignored it. It too will become another weapon in the arsenal of the anti-life mentality of those who promote that agenda. And it will work, because no one has stood up and said...ENOUGH.

You see everything comes down to one truth. Do you believe that ALL human life deserves or is entitled to be born and live until natural death? If you do you need to start standing up, speak out and let the world know that we don't live and give our lives for their lies. Until we do band together for the sanctity of ALL human life we will continue to see laws made that erode at the very core of our society. It is already happening and "they" are ready to put in place laws that will bring our nation and the world to the end.

If we don't protest against; stem cell research to cloning to abortion to same-sex marriage to how our tax dollars are spent, not just here in the US but Worldwide and a host of other laws, we will be saying that we approve of them. Our silence speaks volumes. Our letter writing is important, our going to Washington DC is important, but what really and truly said more was the protest on Tax Day.

ALL of these issues pertain to "Life" and if we don't band together, we will fail miserably. At the Tax Day Tea Party I attended, everyone there (and I mean everyone) believed in the sanctity and dignity of human life, at all stages.

In the end I guess my message today is: from stem cell research to how tax dollars are spent and how much is needed, these are all Life issues and we ALL need to pray and participate whenever and wherever we are.
